Delighting my soul . . . (Five Minute Friday)

It is time for one of the most favorite meme’s of the week. Of course, I am talking about Five Minute Friday with Lisa Jo!  Write for five minutes.  Pour out your heart, and don’t question the truth that comes out of your fingers.

Today’s prompt?  Delight

Delight  has been hard to find this week.  I struggled under the weight of expectations that I have placed on myself, illness, and hatred aimed at me from my precious child.  I know that he doesn’t mean the things that he says, but the words cut deep.

When we talk with him later and explain the meaning of the words he said, there is true remorse, and I know that he does in fact love me, and that he is just going through a horrible, awful, painful, not very fun phase.

But when I place my confidence in the words of my Father, I find rest, and peace, and comfort. And in that place, knowing that my every tear is counted, that my thoughts and worries and hopes are precious to HIM, I can remember that my time here on earth is fleeting.  Like a vapor, or a mist.

So, my true delight, needs to lie with HIM.  And the truths that HE teaches me in the Word.  I will lay up for myself treasures in Heaven, and delight my soul in the presence of the one who created me, and who redeemed me.

Delight is the byproduct of the focus, of the intentional cultivating of my relationship with Him. The theme of this week has been “yes, its hard. But I am with you.”

And you know what?  I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.

To intentionally cultivate my relationship with Him. He’s been speaking to me about this. “Come to me, my child. I delight in you. Will you delight in me”? Praying for you this week.

  3. Great words, my friend!

I love what you said here –> So, my true delight, needs to lie with HIM. And the truths that HE teaches me in the Word. I will lay up for myself treasures in Heaven, and delight my soul in the presence of the one who created me, and who redeemed me.

    Profound, Meredith!

Oh yes! When we focus on God, the delight does come, doesn’t it? I’m sorry you’ve had a rough week. Still, even in the rough stuff, God gives that delight. Hope you have a good weekend!

It is so true. That is why the gift counting has become such a vital part of my journey.

Purposefully seeking, and finding all of the many, many ways that He blesses us!!

  6. Thank you, Meredith, for sharing with such authenticity your journey to delight this week. It is never fun when our child says hurtful words but so sweet when it becomes a learning moment. Your words about how delight requires focus on our relationship with God is so true and so wise. Have a blessed weekend :)

  7. Hyacynth says:

Meredith, your words are so real, so honest. It’s so hard to remember that He walks with us through the hard when it feels like we’re walking through dry desert alone. I’m so glad you recalled that verse about being able to do all things through Christ who strengthens us. Sometimes in our weakness, His strength is most apparent … and then most appreciated. Praying the weekend brings you rest.

  8. “Delight is the byproduct of the focus…”

This really encourages me. “Focus” was one of my “strengths” when I took the Strengths Finder test, and I always thought of it as part of my “serious side,” which means I can focus and get a lot done, but I’m not exactly the life of the party either. But your words: Delight is the byproduct of focus … this brings joy to my heart. Thank you!

  10. Friend I love this…thinking about doing a second five minute post just for this…although I think it would probably just end up blending in with my word for today. :)

To be delighted in. A feeling we all have. Which makes sense because His desire is to be delighted in by us. Like father, like daughter. I suppose. :)

  11. Jennifer says:

I love your vulnerability here, Meredith (parenting is such a leap of faith!) and this truth, “Delight is the byproduct of the focus, of the intentional cultivating of my relationship with Him.” I rejoice that He gives me a choice to receive this delight, this love, this Life — and in the surrendering, the trusting, He brings all the joy of Him! Thank you so much for this blessing today.

This is just SO true. We must remember that life is fleeting in order to truly delight in the every day. I also LOVE the line: delight is the byproduct of the focus. I will definitely be thinking about that today! Thanks for your thoughts; they are so encouraging to me today. Happy to find you here :)
