Giving Thanks {Date Night Edition}

My football loving husband has had a rough season. We don’t have cable (on purpose) and no matter where we move our TV in our house, we do NOT get reception.  For any channel.  It is a sad, sad mystery.  So the SuperBowl was something that was up in the air for awhile.  We decided that we would get a babysitter and head down the road to the new restaurant that has LOTS of TVs.

But the more we talked about being alone together, and actually having a babysitter, the more appealing the idea of actually just having a date was to both of us.  So that’s what we did.  We headed out of town, had sushi and hibachi, went to a few stores and then relaxed at a Starbucks.  It was so much fun!!

Did I mention that this was our first date night in about two years?  (Because Christmas shopping does NOT count.)

689.  Students that I trust to babysit my children.  (And witness my “housekeeping doesn’t come easy” home.)

690. A Groupon to a brand new Japanese Hibachi and sushi restaurant that was one of the presents I have my husband for Christmas.

691. The best meal that we have had in a restaurant in a very, very long time. Possibly ever.

His hands were moving so fast! So much fun! (And DELICIOUS!)

692.  Target shopping without having to answer the question: “Can I have a car?”

693. Walking out with new socks for every member of the family.

694. New guitar strings, a string winder, and pretty picks.  (Not from Target.  Just sayin’)

695. A chance to talk “shop” with the man working at the music store.

696. Pricing treadmills and weight bench equipment, and the reality check that followed.

697. Thinking of alternatives to a vacation we were thinking of, and discussing a “stay”cation instead.

698. Sitting in Starbucks.

699.  The fact that Randy was able to WATCH the superbowl for a bit on the iPad while we were there!

700. Since Randy was pre-occupied, I got some blogging done!

701.  Being at the Starbucks at the end of the night and being given free stuff.

702. Buying a really cute mug. :)

703. Coming back home.

704. A good report from the babysitter.

705. A babysitter that turns off lights that aren’t needed!!

706. A husband who is grateful that he didn’t watch the whole game just to see our team lose.

707. The fact that once we made the decision to get a babysitter to go watch the game, my husband decided that having an actual date night was more important.  Even though he LOVES football, and usually loves the Super Bowl, no matter who is playing.

708. Great parking and service wherever we went since we were just about the only ones in New England not watching the game.  (Even the people working were watching the game somehow!)

709. Awesome memories with my sweetheart.

That sounds like a dream date to me, down to the not-from-Target guitar strings and talking shop in the music store. And since the nearest Target is 1.5 hrs away, that fits in my slice o’ heaven, too. Hope you get to have another one soon!

  6. Awesome, Meredith. And NO, Christmas shopping most definitely does not count. What’s it like in Maine, really? I just picture your whole life up there as a movie. It seems like a whole ‘nother world to me! So glad you two had a wonderful time. You deserve it. <3

      :) Thank you, sweet friend!!
I guess Maine is like pretty much any other kind of rural place. A few cities here and there with lots of lots of towns.
We are having a very mild winter, so everything is kind of brown, instead of white and beautiful, but that’s ok. :)

  7. Sounds like a great time! Dates are important, even when they are so hard to come by. Pretty, pretty new pic of you, too!

We got lucky in the menfolk department, huh?
Once we got home and checked the score he was glad he hasn’t wasted the time on the game!

And the more I heard about the commercials, I was glad I didn’t really waste time on those, either!

  9. Christina says:

I LOVE that he chose a date night with you instead! And Starbucks–best place for a date I say:) Truly wonderful list!

  10. We went out last night as well. Nothing big, just dinner & Target, but for someone like me who is often homebound, it was awesome. Since neither of us had a team we were rooting for (I’m a Cowboys fan, he’s Colts), we deliberately chose a place with no TV so we wouldn’t have to deal with noise or crowds, which can be difficult with a wheelchair. We went to a place we’d never eaten at before & actually enjoyed it quite a bit.

It’s all about the quiet, stolen moments, isn’t it?
